Who are KleanDrive?

KleanDrive is a clean-technology engineering company focused on decarbonising heavy transport. We convert existing diesel buses and HGVs into fully electric vehicles using our proprietary drivetrain systems. By repowering vehicles rather than replacing them, we offer fleet operators a faster and more cost-effective path to zero-emission transport while extending the life of existing assets.

What have you been up to in 2025?

2025 has been a strong year for KleanDrive as we continued developing and deploying our electric drivetrain technology while expanding partnerships with fleet operators. A key milestone was announcing our partnership with Alexander Dennis as the official repower partner behind AD Repower, their dedicated repowering brand. This collaboration brings together our electric drivetrain technology with Alexander Dennis’ expertise as one of the UK’s leading bus manufacturers to support the transition of existing bus fleets to zero-emission operation.

We also continued to expand our work with FirstGroup and other fleet operators, including our collaboration with Welch Group to electrify their heavy vehicle fleet.

What are your plans for 2026?

In 2026 we plan to scale our technology and deployment capacity, working with additional fleet operators and partners to accelerate the transition to zero-emission transport. We also expect to expand our international reach as demand for practical electrification solutions continues to grow.

Is Essex a good place for business?

Essex is an excellent place to build a technology business. The county offers strong engineering talent, an entrepreneurial culture, and proximity to London and major logistics hubs, making it an ideal base for companies developing and scaling innovative technologies.

How did the collaboration with Welch Group come about?

Welch Group were working together with First Charge, the charge point operation for First Group to cost effectively increase the number of electric vehicles in their fleet while maintaining operational efficiency. Our drivetrain technology enables existing vehicles to be converted to electric, making the transition both economically viable and operationally straightforward.

What cost savings can fleets expect?

Electric vehicles can significantly reduce operating costs through lower fuel costs, reduced maintenance, and improved efficiency. Converting existing vehicles also avoids the large capital cost of purchasing new electric trucks.

Do KleanDrive expect to expand their reach beyond buses and HGV’s in the near future?

Our focus remains on buses and heavy commercial vehicles, where electrification can deliver the greatest local air quality improvements and environmental impact, but our drivetrain technology has potential applications across a wider range of commercial vehicles.

We’re very proud to be included in the Ambitious Essex Tech 50 and look forward to celebrating alongside the other businesses involved.
