Essex celebrates Nigerian connections at Beyond London event

Senior business leaders from across Greater Essex and Nigeria came together at London Stansted Airport for a special event this week.

Beyond London: Unlock Global Growth Opportunities in Greater Essex brought together around 80 businesses and stakeholders from the UK and Nigeria, creating a platform for dialogue, collaboration and partnership development.

The event was delivered by the Nigerian-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) and ETK Group, in collaboration with the Greater Essex Business Board, Essex Chambers of Commerce’s Inward Investment Team and Freeport East.

The event’s aim was to position Greater Essex as a strategic gateway for international trade and global business growth.

Speakers at the event included:

  • Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, Nigeria’s Honourable Commissioner for Trade, Investment, Cooperatives and Commerce (Lagos State)
  • Prince Abimbola Olashore, President of the Nigerian-British Chambers of Commerce
  • as well as Mike Hardaker, Chief Asset and Development Officer at MAG (Airports Group)

Through curated B2B matchmaking, targeted networking sessions and expert-led discussions, participants engaged directly with business leader, investors and trade specialists.

The event focused on key sectors such as advanced manufacturing, green energy, life sciences, digital and data technology, logistics, construction and education.

These reflect both Essex’s economic strengths and Nigeria’s growing demand across these industries.

Julia Gregory, Chair of the Greater Essex Business Board, said: “This event has been a powerful demonstration of Greater Essex’s role in a globally connected economy. Bringing international partners directly to our region not only showcases our strengths, but creates tangible opportunities for local businesses to grow and innovate.

“The conversations and connections made here will help strengthen our international partnerships and support long-term economic growth across Essex.”

With strong feedback from attendees and a clear pipeline of potential collaborations emerging, Beyond London is expected to act as a catalyst for ongoing trade engagement and future partnerships between Essex and Nigeria.
