Sky-Futures is a UK-headquartered inspection and data services company, using uncrewed aircraft, ground-based robotics, and advanced sensing technologies to capture high-quality data across industrial environments. We operate globally across energy, oil and gas, and maritime sectors, supporting clients to better understand the condition, performance, and risk profile of critical assets.
In 2025, following a successful management buyout led by our Essex-based CEO and US-based Chairman, we have continued to scale internationally, delivering projects across Europe, West and Southern Africa, and the wider Mediterranean and Middle East. A key area of focus has been supporting industry to measure, quantify and reduce emissions, alongside large-scale inspection, and survey work across complex infrastructure. We have also expanded our global footprint, including the acquisition of a South Africa-based business, strengthening our ability to deliver locally while maintaining consistent global standards.
Our focus for 2026 is continued growth across core sectors, alongside further investment in capability, systems, and people. We are expanding our team of remote pilots and technical specialists, acquiring new platforms and sensors, and continuing to build capacity to deliver large, multi-site programmes for global clients.
Yes. Essex provides access to strong engineering and operational talent, while remaining cost-effective compared to London. Its proximity to major transport hubs supports international deployment, which is critical for our business. It is a practical base for a company delivering globally.
We look for high-calibre engineers, remote pilots and technical specialists who can operate in complex, real-world environments. The requirement is not just technical competence, but reliability, judgement and the ability to deliver safely under pressure. We attract people by offering early responsibility, international exposure, and the opportunity to work on technically demanding projects with major global clients.
Support for developing technical talent pipelines would have the greatest impact, particularly in engineering and applied technology roles. Stronger links between industry, universities and colleges, alongside support for internships and apprenticeships, would help build a more sustainable local skills base.
Practical support for scaling businesses also matters, including access to targeted grants and growth funding.
There is also an opportunity to better connect local industry. We deliver major contracts globally across Europe, Africa, the Americas and APAC, yet there are organisations within Essex we are not currently connected to, where there is clear potential to add value. Facilitating those connections would strengthen both the local economy and companies like ours.
Sky-Futures has been operating uncrewed systems in complex environments such as offshore oil and gas platforms since 2009. The systems and processes we have developed, aligned closely to manned aviation standards, have enabled us to accumulate hundreds of thousands of accident-free operational hours. The technology continues to advance rapidly. Improvements in platforms and sensor payloads now allow more than stand-off visual inspection, including physical contact methods such as ultrasonic testing. Flight endurance, data quality and operational flexibility have all improved significantly in recent years.
However, the real challenge is not access to technology but knowing how to apply it effectively. Navigating aviation permissions, operating safely in complex environments, and distinguishing between genuine capability and marketing noise is where experience matters. The data and insights our teams deliver are accurate, repeatable, and directly support engineering and operational decision-making. Most importantly, our approach improves safety by reducing the need for working at height and confined space entry, while also minimising downtime compared to traditional inspection and survey methods.
