Who are CML Micro?

CML Micro is a global leader in the design, development, and supply of mixed-signal, RF, and microwave semiconductors for communications and connectivity markets worldwide. Headquartered in Essex, with deep expertise in RF, microwave, and low-power IC design, CML supports customers across professional and industrial communications, network infrastructure, Industrial IoT, and aerospace and defence.

Our portfolio spans a wide range of products including mmWave MMICs, RF transceivers, baseband processors and data controllers, all engineered to meet the demanding requirements of critical and high-reliability applications. CML operates at an international scale, with manufacturing offices across the United States, Europe, and Asia.

What have you been up to in 2025?

2025 has been a year focused on steady progress and laying groundwork for the future. We’ve continued investing in new product development across our core RF and mixed-signal portfolios, maintained focus on key application areas, and strengthened the support around our products to help customers design and deploy with confidence.  Alongside this, we’ve refined how we communicate our value, placing greater emphasis on application stories, system-level benefits, and long-term support rather than individual components alone. Overall, the year has been about strengthening foundations and positioning the business for sustainable, long-term growth, while remaining true to our engineering-led roots.

Do you think Essex is a good place for business? If so, why?

Absolutely. Essex offers a strong combination of home-grown technical talent, connectivity, and quality of life. The region has a long-standing engineering and manufacturing heritage, supported by excellent universities and well-established skills pipelines. We’ve built knowledgeable, committed teams here who value long-term careers and technical excellence. Essex also benefits from close proximity to major UK technology hubs such as Cambridge and London, supporting collaboration, recruitment, and access to wider innovation ecosystems. For CML, it provides the right environment to build and retain high-calibre engineering and commercial teams, while remaining well connected to customers, partners, and international transport links.

CML Micro has been in business since 1968. What would you say is the key to that longevity?

Our longevity comes down to a consistent focus on engineering excellence, customer trust, and long-term thinking. While technologies and markets have evolved significantly since 1968, our approach has remained the same: understand real customer problems, design robust and differentiated solutions, and support those products over the long term. By combining high-performance RF and mixed-signal technologies with deep application knowledge and strong customer relationships, we’ve remained relevant across multiple technology cycles. Quality, reliability, and partnership are not just values for us, they’re fundamental to how we operate.

What trends do you see shaping the semiconductor industry over the next 5–10 years, and how is CML preparing?

We see several key trends shaping the industry: continued growth in IoT and connected devices, increased focus on low-power and energy-efficient designs, the evolution towards 5G and 6G, and wider adoption of flexible, software-defined radio architectures. Across all of these, reliability and ease of deployment are becoming increasingly important.

CML is addressing these trends through targeted innovation in RF, mixed-signal, and system-level integration. We’re developing efficient, application-optimised solutions supported by practical evaluation platforms, tools, and reference designs that help customers move from concept to deployment more quickly, while staying closely aligned with real-world use cases.
